Senior Infants were doing Length in Maths this week. They had to estimate the length and width of their Maths book, their table and a box. Then, using pencils they had to measure each of these things. They had great fun seeing if their guess was the same as the answer.
This month our theme for Aistear was Houses. We were reading the story of the Three Little Pigs and decided to investigate which house type was the best. First we built our houses out of Lego. Next we collected some sticks and some grass. When we got back inside we started our experiment. We tested the grass roof first. We put some grass on our Lego houses, sprayed them with water and checked to see if any water got in. It did! Next we put some sticks on. Again we sprayed it with water and checked to see if any had gotten in. Again, it had. Finally we used some Lego blocks to make a roof. We sprayed this with water and checked to see if it let any in. It didn't. We discovered that a house made of bricks is the best house to let in. The grass and the sticks had gaps, which allowed the water in. We had great fun testing out our different roof types.
