The children have been very busy planting the lovely vegetables they grew from seed into our new vegetable beds. We have everything from potatoes, cabbage, onions, raddish beans, carrots, strawberries, herbs and much much more. The children will be very busy over the next few months watering and taking care of the plants in our school garden.
Getting ready for our new vegetable patch
The children have been very busy this week planting lots of seeds for our school garden and our new vegetable patch.
The children will be looking after the seeds inside until they are ready for planting outdoors.
We are very excited about our new vegetable patch and we would like to thank all the parents who are helping out with this project. If the children wish to bring in compost to help fill the new vegetable patch that would be fantastic. Every little helps!
We are encouraging children to bring in any seeds they may have at home to plant in our school garden. We welcome all kinds of seeds.
We are also encouraging the children to bring in any gardening tools they have at home to add to our collection. Such items include gardening gloves, trowels and watering cans.

The Crown Plaza was the venue for the recent Environmental Grow Awards. Grow stands for Green Renewable Organic and Waste minimisation. Stabannon scored extremely high in these categories and received a 4star award. Well done to the Green Schools committee, the teachers and all the pupils for all their hard work.

Spring Clean 2015
Well done to all the children for taking part in the annual Spring Clean. It was a huge success once again and thanks to the Tidy Towns for providing refreshments for all the children.
Global Citizenship Day
As part of our Green Flag we held a Global Citizenship Day in our school. Each class studied a different country around the world and learnt about culture of that country and about the poverty surrounding that country and fair trade. On Global Citizenship Day the children dressed up in clothing native to their Country and participated in the different customs native to their country. The children created passports and had the opportunity to board an aeroplane and travel to the different classrooms. Each child brought in 2euro and we gave the money raised to Ellyn Conlon a local girl traveling to Uganda. Well done to all the parents and children for putting in a huge effort and making the day a huge success.

Green Flag Number 6; Global Citizenship- Litter and Waste
We would like to thank everyone for helping us achieve our 5th Green Flag last year and we hope you all enjoyed our celebration day last June. It was a huge success and a fun day for all.
We are now working towards our 6th Green Flag Global Citizenship-Litter and Waste.
In previous themes we have explored issues such as Waste, Litter, Energy, Water, Travel and Biodiversity. Most of these themes would have related to issues in or near our school whereas Global Citizenship - Litter & Waste issues will cross international boundaries.
This theme will enable us to discover how our work on the Green-Schools programme has positively influenced people and their environments worldwide. As Global Citizenship - Litter & Waste is such a broad theme it is linked it to all the previous themes we have worked on and we willing be working on the Litter & Waste aspect of Global Citizenship first.
As part of this theme we are working on lots of projects in each class, we have been raising money for different charities and we will be holding a day of action so watch this space!
Biodiversity Flag
Congratulations to all involved in helping our School earn the Biodiversity Green Flag which is the Schools 5th Green Flag which we will raise on the 19th of June. We worked on lots of exciting projects and created a Bee and Butterfly Garden in the Local community as well as in our School grounds. We also planted lots of new trees and new flower beds. We also added an Outdoor Classroom and an Outdoor Library to our School grounds. A special Thank you to the Tidy Towns for their continued support.

Handbags and Wellies
What better way to create an eye catching feature in a garden then to recycle old handbags and wellies and plant lots of herbs, vegetables and flowers in them. We had great fun creating this interesting, quirky and eye catching garden wall.
